Goughryn Farm was founded in 1927 by my great great grandparents and is owned by my mother today. In fact, my daughter, Caitlin, is the fifth generation on our family farm. Over the years many things have been grown and raised, including vegetables, sheep and even Champion Irish Setters and Beagles. Rumor has it that during prohibition there might have even been a still but we've never found one even though my husband keeps looking.
Ten quick years ago Kurt Alstede approached my mom with the idea of putting in a farm stand and marketing farm-fresh and locally grown produce directly to consumers. From a very modest beginning, Kurt now has two stands, one year round on Route 24 and his stand on our farm on Pleasant Hill. This stand operates from April through October and specializes in pick your own strawberries/raspberries in the spring and pick your own pumpkins in the fall.
Putting this catalogue together has been a joy. We have tried to include only the very best items and only the ones we use ourselves. The jellies and jams are unparalleled and remind me of the home-made jams and jellies put up by grandma. You'll notice either the absence or limited use of preservatives. This is because we have selected fresh products that taste good, not ones with a shelf life into the next century.
The coffees we offer comes from a local New Jersey roaster and are purchased to order. Our roaster has been roasting and blending coffee for over 75 years. This is our third generation in the coffee business both my father and grandfather roasted and blended coffee for many years. We offer over 40 different types, flavors or blends. This is many more than most specialty coffee companies because we think you, not us, should be able to choose the coffee you wish to drink. One thing you can be sure of is that our coffee is fresh roasted, of the highest quality and tastes great!
So whether you visit Kurt's stand, purchase from our catalogue or just stop by and say hi, we would like to say thanks. In this most urbanized state in the nation family farming is not only dependent on farmers and mother nature but our most important resource --a satisfied customer.
